An Angels Walk is a self-guided walking trail that brings you face to face with some of the most historically and culturally rich places in Los Angeles. These walks are often comprised of three elements: 1) a guidebook (either printed or in PDF format); 2) a map; 3) historic on-sidewalk stanchions located along the walk itself.

Angels Walks are designed to celebrate and illuminate the rich and diverse history of Los Angeles by highlighting the significant locations, people, and events that have contributed to the unique development of each neighborhood. While on an Angels Walk, participants can utilize our guidebooks and on-sidewalk stanchions to discover the forgotten stories that have have shaped our city into what it is today.
There are currently 13 Angels Walks: Bunker Hill, Union Station, Hollywood, Chinatown, Figueroa, Wilshire, San Pedro, NoHo, Highland Park, Crenshaw, East Hollywood/Silver Lake, Boyle Heights, and Central Avenue.

Every walk is different, but the average distance of an Angels Walk is 2.5 miles.
It depends! Some walks are longer than others, and everyone walks at a different pace. On average, a regular walk at a regular pace will take about 2-3 hours to complete.
Angles Walks are designed specifically to be walked during daylight hours only.
You will need an Angels Walk LA guidebook and the walk map, which can be accessed from each walk page as either a PDF download or a Google map. Other than that, you should bring all of the usual items you’d bring on an outdoor walk: water, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, and weather-appropriate attire.
Our walking trails are strictly outdoors, so you’ll definitely want to bring an umbrella. Otherwise, if you’re feeling adventurous on the rare rainy day in Los Angeles, go for it!
Guidebooks for our most current walks can usually be found in public tourist locations including the information desk at Union Station, the Hollywood & Highland Visitor’s Center, and at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel. A number of branches of the Los Angeles Public Library and Los Angeles County libraries also stock current guides. We recommend that you call ahead to confirm. We are also happy to provide you with guidebooks, either by mail (there is a small fee to cover postage and handling) or by coordinating a pick up. If you are a business or hosting an event and would like multiple copies of any of the available guidebooks, please contact us via email and we can make arrangements.
Guidebooks for our legacy walks have been out of print for years. Because of this we have made PDF versions of all of our guidebooks accessible digitally here on this website.

Angels Walk LA works in close association with Metro to design our walking trails around rail and bus lines. Most of our walks begin either at or near a Metro station. Take advantage of this to avoid that infamous LA traffic.
Yes, the guidebooks (and maps) are essential to your full experience during the walk. They contain information on each site along the route and help to guide you as you walk. Our guidebooks and maps are available as PDFs on this website so that you may either print out your own copies or load the files onto your mobile device.

When developing a walk, Angels Walk LA works closely with members of the neighborhood community and historians to research and review the stories that are to be included in the guidebooks and the on-sidewalk stanchions. All final verbiage and imagery is then reviewed by stakeholders to ensure each walk is not only a celebration of the neighborhood but is also historically and informationally accurate at the time of printing.
Thanks for asking! Several guidebooks are out of print and some of the on-sidewalk stanchions have been in the field for over 20 years! We’re always actively looking for support toward updating and refreshing the older walks. Please reach out by email to learn how you can help.
